9th Annual Marshall Open Players Meeting - Oct 22nd, 2020

9th Annual Marshall Open
Players’ Meeting

In Memory of Jerry Scott

The Marshall Open this year is being played in Memory of Jerry Scott, who was taken from us earlier this year by the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone who ever met Jerry would almost immediately know three things about him – he loved God and his church, he loved his family, and he loved disc golf.

Jerry was the pastor of Olivet Free Will Baptist Church for the last 20 years and assistant pastor for 17 years prior, only recently retiring. He was constantly helping anyone in need, even if not from his church, with things like food, shelter, or transportation. He was even one of the most loyal members of the jail ministry team that would visit the county jail on Sundays.

As much as Jerry is missed in the community, the Marshall disc golf scene would be totally different without his influence. He was one of the designers/builders of the original course. He was the first to speak to the Park Director, and led the presentation to the Park Board. Without his continual nudging, the course may never have existed. Not only was he one of the handful of players to build the first course, he also spent countless hours over the years doing maintenance work.

Jerry loved the sport, playing as often as possible, even if he didn’t expect to win. He attended tournaments as far away as the Amateur World Championships in Emporia, Kansas and the Tim Selinske U. S. Masters Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina. He would never miss the Marshall Open until failing health last year forced him to just watch. Another favorite was to play in the Show Me State Games where he always medaled in his age bracket.

In short, Jerry was an inspiration to the community in all ways. He will be sorely missed.

Welcome to the Ninth Annual Marshall Open! As always, we’d like to start off by thanking our sponsors.
Our tour sponsors: Elephant & Castle Fine Arms, Innova Champion Discs, Creator Designs, Fossa, Millenium Golf Discs, Discmania, Cyclebar Springfield East, 8Up, Fimco Steel, Discs Unlimited, and Dynamic Discs.

Everyone needs to check in at the pavilion. Also, the PDGA is requiring a signed waiver stating we acknowledge the increased risk of COVID-19 by playing in this tournament. Since you all signed up online, you've already signed that waiver.
Regarding COVID-19, please maintain social distancing at all times before, during, and after the tournament. During check-in, please form three lines, and keep at least 6 feet apart in those lines. Three people at a time will be allowed to check in. There will be water on the course at each shelter house. After the tournament, amateur players receiving a payout will need to form three lines, as three people will be allowed in the trailer at any one time.

Caddies are not being allowed at this tournament. However, spectators are welcome. We ask that all spectators maintain social distancing at all times.

Round 1 tees off at 10. Scores for this tournament will be kept at ‪pdga.com/score‬. The code is marsh. Round 1 player course and hole assignments will be posted shortly after registration closes ‪Friday night‬ at https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/47200. The staff will automatically receive the scores at tournament central. When round one is finished, the Rotary Club will be selling lunch at the course. Proceeds go to funding a course at Marshall High School.

Round 2 SHOULD ‪start at 2‬, but may change based on last card. There will be an announcement by DGM staff, and round 2 assignments will be posted on the PDGA page.

Rules for the courses are listed below. Innova CTP is North hole 17. Trilogy-only CTP is South hole 5. All players play from red tees on both courses.
If there is any question about any throws or lies, try to make a group decision. If no decision can be made, play a provisional. When possible, consult with the course TD to determine the correct answer.
