The Presidential Cup - Dynamic Discs 5K/10K Ace Challenge Recap - Feb 18th, 2020

The Presidential Cup V

I want thank everyone who came out to the Presidential Cup V. Filling this first PDGA event of the year was awesome. I also want to thank Scott Kisling for the remarkable job he has done on the course. It was mentioned by several players that upgrades and cleaning on the course was definitely noticed. The tee signs looked sharp, the 10 concrete pads are great, and the whole barbed wire fence being removed on the outside of the property was a welcomed face lift!

The morning was definitely cool and the wind wreaked havoc on the scores. The entire first round was effected by wind and made the birdies scarce in all divisions. The second round was definitely different with nearly no wind until the last 4 holes or so. Despite the short course with several 220 or less holes, Swing Right played tough this year.

There were 95 players that played the 19 hole layout with 8 divisions. The bonus 19th hole served again as the 301’ “5K/10K Ace Challenge by DD. This hole was permanently put in last year for this challenge and is only open to play at tournaments. Unfortunately no one hit the big one this year, but there were 3 aces. This year we had a professional photographer who took both videos and still shots of the players. The videos were then played on the simulator big screens after the 2nd round. This was a cool added treat.

Division tournament winners:
Recreational Division (18)
Derek Green snot +9, Adrian Miller & Kody Kutz tied at +8, and Nathan Krandall’s +3 took the win.
Intermediate Division (20)
This division was one of the closest races all the way through the field that I have ever seen. Almost every place was separated by just one stroke. Challis Carter -1, Daniel Holston & Darrin Dodson -2, and winner Joseph Haynes won with a -3.
Advanced 50 (5)
Robert Covert and Brad “the Bud Man” Hilton shot +2 and Mike McBee’s Even par was good enough to win
Advanced 40 (8)
Dustin Murray +3, Charles Rector Even, and Christopher Stebbins took the win by a convincing margin with a -5.
Advanced (11)
The top 3 in this division had a significant lead over the rest of the field. Thomas Sloan & Creighton Temerius both shot -4 with winner Matthew Wulfekuhl shooting 9 down.
Pro Masters (8)
John Belty had a bit second round to get to 9 down. Rick Waggoner and I battled all the way through and had to play 3 extra holes to take the win with 13 down and a 3 on hole 3.
Open Women (5)
3rd place was Mary Abbott with a +14 followed by Brandy Monnahan +10, and 19 year old Katelyn Belty took the win by 1 shooting +9.
Open Men (19)
Defending two time champion Jeff Renner’s 15 down was good enough for 3rd, Gaven Ossenkop’s 17 down was one short of the lead, and “King” George Smith blistered a 44 in the second round to take the win shooting 18 down!

Great job to all the above, and the other players who cashed!

The raffle was a lot of fun with the Luster’s 10lb raffle donation being the big buzz item. Rumor has it there was quite a stir on the way home about that feast! Dougie Broom squeaked in this event as the last on the wait list. And took home the KC Chiefs colored basket. It was cool seeing his little Toyota with a shiny Monkey Trap in the back as he drove out of Swing Right. Congrats buddy.

Thank all of you for coming out to this event, and I hope to see you in Lebanon, for the 12th Annual Ice Bowl in 2 weeks (February 29th).
